Polypropylene (PP)

PPPolypropylene compounds are thermoplastic resins produced using a blend of one or more base polyolefins with various components such as impact modifiers, fillers, reinforcements, pigments and additives. Polypropylene Compounds offer a broad range of characteristics and are used in a wide variety of applications for automotive, industrial, electrical appliances, building and construction, furniture components and many more. Polypropylene compounds can be altered by different processing technologies like injection molding, blow molding, film, fiber, sheet extrusion and thermoforming.

The large number of end-use applications for polypropylene are often possible because of the ability to tailor grades with specific molecular properties and additives during its manufacturing process. For example, antistatic additives can be added to help polypropylene surfaces resist dust and dirt. Many physical finishing techniques can also be used on polypropylene, such as machining and finishing. Surface treatments can be applied to polypropylene parts in order to promote adhesion of printing ink and paints. Since the majority of glues will not form adequate bonds with polypropylene, the most common method of joining PP components is through plastic bond welding techniques.
